My Fear doesn’t stand a chance

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27

The kind of peace that the Lord gives us is like no other. It is not the peace that the world can give us, but a peace of understanding, a peace of contentment, and a peace that grants us hope. When we turn our eyes to Jesus we are allowing the storms of this world to subside and the peace of God to take over. We are letting go of our fears and turning our focus to our hope in Jesus Christ.

I ask you today to reflect on what you fear most. Make a list and read over each one. Is there anything on that list that God cannot conquer?

To give you an example, I’ll share a part of my list with you. (Believe it or not, leaders have fears as well)

I fear…

  1. Something happening to one of my children or them rebelling against God
  2. Losing loved ones – especially those that don’t know Christ
  3. The future – the unknown
  4. Not doing enough for God
  5. Things that I cannot control

The list could go on and on but as one of my favorite songs says “My fear doesn’t stand a chance when I stand in Your love.” (Josh Baldwin)

Each fear on my list can be solved with scripture.

Losing a loved one that is saved means that they are no longer struggling in this world, they are rejoicing in Heaven.

“but we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8

When my Papa died, I was extremely sad but I can say with confidence that my papa, suffering and not knowing the ones he loved most, having lived a life devoted to the Lord, would much rather be absent from his body and at home with the Lord on the day he breathed his last that continuing the life he had left on earth. He left this world to be where he belonged, with his Heavenly Father.

As for my fears for my children and the things I cannot control, I must have faith that the Lord is in control of all things. There is nothing that I can do in comparison to God.

“Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

My job is to raise my children in a Christian home and show them the love of Christ every day. The Lord will guide them the rest of the way. My trust has to remain in Him.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5

When the future starts to worry me it’s because I’ve become too focused on self and not focused on God. When I turn my eyes to the Lord and away from the struggles of this world, I’m reminded that my hope is in Him and He has already overcome the world.

“These things I have spoken to you that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trials and sorrow, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

All your fears, all your sorrows, and all your pain that you are facing today, can all be taken away by finding peace in the Lord.

Turn your eyes to Him today and allow Him to give peace you’ve never known.

May God bless you and show you His grace every day!

thy will be done in 2021

As we end 2020 and move forward to 2021, I can’t help but wonder what the future holds. It seems like every thought in my mind has been consumed with the coronavirus, politics, and overall fear of the unknown. Every channel I turn on, every ad on social media, every conversation I overhear is swarmed with negativity and hatred.

“Lord, help me to see You through this mess. Help me to overcome my fears.”

For 2021, I don’t have a solution for all the world’s problems, but I do have a resolution to leave it up to God. It’s not easy to pray for God’s will to be done when all I want is for this mess to be over with. I want it all gone, but what if God has other plans? God’s will is not always my will, and that’s a tough realization to get through my thick skull.

How often have you prayed, and truly meant, for God’s will to be done. When a loved one is sick and you pray for recovery, do you mean it when you pray for God’s will to be done, or do you really mean, “Lord, make it your will that my family member is healed.”

Matthew 6:9-13 is what we know of as the Lord’s Prayer. It’s not a prayer that we are repeat daily in order to be Christian but it is an example of what our prayers should look like. Our prayers should admonish God for who He is, acknowledge that He is in control, and ask forgiveness and deliverance from our sins.

The verse I want to focus on in the Lord’s prayer for 2021 is Matthew 6:10 “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”

This short verse taken from a powerful prayer is a picture of one relinquishing control and putting whatever circumstance or fear they may have into the hands of God.

“Thy will be done.”

Matthew 6:10

My prayer for the New Year is not for my will to be done for political change, vaccines, medical miracles, or even an end to all of my worries; it is for God’s will to be done. In every situation, I pray that the Lord will hear my cries, but that He will answer them in His timing and according to His will. Whatever His will may be, my prayer is that I will accept it and worship Him no matter what.

God has the power to end all suffering and the power to make it continue. He has the power to give you your next breath or take it away in an instant. He is God Almighty, powerful above all others. He is the Only One that controls today, tomorrow, and eternity. Forever we are to glorify Him and trust in His will above our own.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord.

Isaiah 55:8

You may be afraid of what the future holds, but know this, God is in control. Whatever thoughts cross your mind, whatever worries you let hold you down, pray and put them in the hands of God.

Dear Lord,

Your unconditional love amazes me as I finish up a year that only you could get me through. I’ve failed you in so many ways and let my worries overwhelm my soul with time I could have spent glorifying you. My fears have overthrown my faith on my hardest days and caused me heartache for not relying on You. Today and always, my heart cries out for forgiveness and grace. Lord, thank you for reminding me that you are in control and you will never leave my side. My prayer for 2021 is that you will guide me closer to You and help me relinquish control of what I consider “my life.” Lord, my life is yours and your will is all that matters. I pray Your will be done in all things and in all things I pray for understanding and guidance. You are the only One that has control over every moment of every day. I thank you for each day that you give me. Thank you for my family, my health, and most importantly the gift of eternal life. Your mercy and grace will never cease to amaze me. Thank you for giving me a chance to be a part of your plan. Lead me where you want me to be and let all that I do glorify your name. Lord, help me be the wife, the mother, the teacher, the friend, and the child of God that you have designed for me to be. Guide me in the way that only you can. Thank you for another year and another chance to live for you.

Thy will be done in 2021.

In your precious name I pray, Amen.

May God bless you and show you His grace every day!
